Life is full of surprises!

If you think you have it figured out, you are in for another surprise!

Sculptures
The other way I reference life is by creating sculptures from alternating raw materials stones / rocks, wood, metal.
These sculptures are designed to capture your attention, and make you question what is normal, to open your mind to what could be, if you simply ask yourself what if.
Every sculpture is unique as is every one of us.
Some may resonate with you; some may make you ask why!
But all are meant as a visual reminder to not get so invested in routine, in the way of normal, in the way it’s always done, that we miss out on an opportunity.
Opportunities in your career.
Opportunities to solve a problem.
Opportunities to witness beauty.
Opportunities for love.
Opportunities to learn.
Opportunities to help.
Opportunities can change your life! But only if you can see them.

Neil’s History
I grew up on the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand, where the landscape is as flat as the Ocean surface in a storm, the view as ugly as the reflection on a lake in the mountains, and the climate as damp and cold as a desert is not.
This enviroment installs in you a resilience that you are not aware of until later in life.
Working initially in earthmoving in both New Zealand and Australia, where l was given a course in physics, specialising in gravity and its effects on the unaware. I also gained an appreciation of stone and earth formations, that when excavating into the earth, in some instances was like looking back in time.
I then moved onto product design and creation in an industrial environment, where necessity and finances often required that I try to reinvent the wheel, to find an alternate solution, a bit like the mythical case where the USA invested millions in making a pen that could work without gravity, while the Russians just used a pencil. The truth of this myth is not that straight forward, but you get the idea.
There is always a conflict in design between, functionality and aesthetic appeal, but when you solve both in the one item, it leaves you with a smile that flows from your mind to your heart.

Equipped with no formal training in any aspect of art, but with a lifetime of observation, learning, creating, and failing in different fields, I have now thrown myself of my cliff of knowledge and am falling into a murky pond with an unknown depth.
My quest with writing and sculpting is to highlight the beauty and adversity diversity we all encounter in our lives.
